Overview
In a celebration of its first new motorcycle produced back in 1943—dubbed the MV 98, described as little more than a bicycle with a 98cc engine—MV Agusta is celebrating the 80th anniversary of its production by releasing the Ottantesimo Collection. Composed of six commemorative models (four three-cylinder models and two four-cylinder models) that will each only have 500 units produced for distribution worldwide, each of the Ottantesimo (“80th”) Collection models have various updates that allow them to pass the recent Euro 5+ standards that center around improved on-board diagnostics (requiring more powerful ECUs which in turn allow better rider aid electronics) and catalytic converter durability. While the three-cylinder models didn’t really see much change for the Euro 5+ move, the four-cylinder Brutale Ottantesimo editions boast significant changes in their power output.

The Three-Cylinder Ottantesimo Range
The Ottantesimo Collection includes four models from the 800cc three-cylinder range: the Brutale RR, the Dragster RR, the F3 RR, and the Superveloce S. The triples all benefit from the latest ECU equipped with a six-axis IMU that allows the rider to adjust parameters such as throttle sensitivity, engine torque, engine-braking, engine response, rev limiter, and electronic suspension settings (on applicable models). Traction control with eight levels of intervention, cornering ABS with two levels of intervention, launch control, wheelie control, and cruise control are all available now partially as a consequence of the Euro 5+ standard. All of the three-cylinder Ottantesimo models also benefit from a new nine-disc slipper/assist clutch with 50 percent less lever effort, except for the Dragster RR, which uses the SCS mechanical automatic clutch system. Pricing and availability for the Ottantesimo models was not available at press time.

The Brutale RR is the flagship of the Brutale lineup (the three-cylinder Brutale sales far outnumber the four-cylinder units), and represents MV Agusta’s legacy. From the slash-cut exhaust mufflers to the svelte bodywork, the Brutale RR Ottantesimo oozes naked bike style. The Brutale RR Ottantesimo comes in the iconic Rosso Ago and Argento Ago paint, along with a dedicated color trim and graphic and the Heritage logo.

Styled in the more aggressive “power cruiser” design vein, the Dragster RR takes the street cred image to another level. The Dragster RR is equipped with the SCS (“Smart Clutch System”) that was developed in collaboration with American aftermarket clutch company Rekluse. This mechanical automatic clutch system allows the rider to take off from and come to a stop without having to engage the clutch lever. The Ottantesimo edition features the darker tones of Metallic Carbon Black and Argento Ago, with the Heritage logo in gold.

In a time where hardcore supersport motorcycles are slowly disappearing from manufacturer lineups, MV Agusta’s F3 RR defiantly continues development and ever-increasing performance. The F3 RR Ottantesimo includes a special kit with an Akrapovič exhaust that boosts total power to 155 hp at 13,250 rpm, plus a carbon fiber muffler cover, CNC-machined fuel cap, and passenger seat cover. Color is Argento Ago and Rosso Ago, flowing over the aerodynamic carbon fiber fairing in a tribute to the legendary F4 750.

Blend the F3 RR with neo-retro cafe racer styling, and you get the Superveloce S. The Ottantesimo edition uses Fire Red and Satin Intense Silver colors, with Alcantara fabric in the seat and new “Millerighe” wheels. A dedicated race kit includes an Arrow exhaust, boosting power to 153 hp, and a passenger seat cover.

The Four-Cylinder Ottantesimo Range
The two Brutale 1000 four-cylinder models both already have the latest ECU and aforementioned electronics suite, but MV Agusta says that the Ottantesimo models received new ECU mapping and revised cam profiles as a result of the Euro 5+ changes that substantially improve low to midrange power output. The new mapping not only improves throttle sensitivity and ease of control at light throttle settings, but the following power output improvements are claimed:

At 3,500 rpm, an additional 7.3 lb.-ft. of torque and 10 hp

At 5,500 rpm, an additional 14.8 lb.-ft. of torque and 15 hp

At 8,000 rpm, an additional 8 lb.-ft. of torque and 12 hp

At 9,500 rpm, an additional 7.3 lb.-ft. of torque and 12 hp

Both 1000 Brutales also get a new four-exit exhaust designed in collaboration with Arrow Exhaust, plus a new 10-disc slipper/assist clutch that is more robust and easier to manage, with 50 percent less lever effort.

Having outlived the F4 supersport machine it was originally derived from, the Brutale 1000′s distinctive and striking design has survived the decades with little change to the styling. With the Euro 5+ standards resulting in substantial performance gains, the Brutale 1000 Ottantesimo is sure to give one’s adrenal glands a workout. The color is the classic Rosso Ago and Argento Ago, with gold for the Heritage logo.

The Brutale 1000 RR takes the standard Brutale 1000 a step further with the addition of Öhlins Smart EC 3.0 suspension, featuring a 43mm Öhlins NIX fork and TTX shock absorber that boast full electronic damping management that uses an “event-based” model to provide better damping changes for riding conditions. The Brutale 1000 RR Ottantesimo is available in Fire Red and Ago Matte Silver, with extensive use of visible carbon fiber for a touch of exclusivity.
