Staying Safe on Your Scooter
Scooters can make traveling short distances or getting through crowded streets a lot easier. But you can also be more exposed to the hazards of the road. We here at V1 Moto want all our patrons to be safe while on the road, which is why we’ve provided some tips to help you accomplish this. You can also contact us at our location in Houston, Texas, for additional tips from our experienced staff.
Ride Defensively
Just as with a car, the best way to avoid accidents is to ride defensively. Even if you’re following all the rules of the road, that doesn’t mean your fellow commuters are, and you’ll want to approach every situation with caution. Be fully aware of your surroundings and don’t linger in someone’s blind spot. Prepare at least two escape routes in the event you do get cut off and need to get out of someone’s way. Avoid dangerous drivers if you spot them, and watch for obstacles. You can even sign up for scooter riding courses that will teach you the basics of riding and other helpful tips to make you a better rider.
Spotting Dangerous Road Conditions
Part of staying aware of your surroundings is spotting dangerous road conditions as they come up. This can include wet and icy patches that might cause you to lose traction. Something slippery like wet leaves or oil droppings can also be dangerous. Other hazards include road obstacles like steel plates and potholes. If you’re in the city, you’ll want to be careful about crossing train tracks, which can throw off your momentum.
There’s nothing more important than you staying safe while on the road. This is especially true when you’re riding an open vehicle like a scooter. Scooters can be a fantastic way to get around town, so if you’re interested in getting one, stop by V1 Moto and let one of our friendly staff give you the complete tour.
